In our front yard there is a mighty oak tree. It shades the house and frames the street looking like something out of Gone with the Wind. At its base is some sort of evergreen grass. It’s tall and thick, and it never dies – not even this winter when we actually had multiple freezes. And just the other day it bloomed! And I was so excited. But when I went out with the camera the blooms had all withered away – like overnight. But today it is blooming again.
The petals have intricate stripes in brown and the sort of beautiful purple indigo color that I can never photograph just right.
And even though the blooms are fleeting, the grass just always is. Always there, always green, and seemingly indestructable. Trust me, I’ve ran over it many a time. Would that I would be so resilient.
Beautiful. I’m pretty sure that’s an iris. The tree must have protected it from the freezes. Happy Easter!
Looks like Spring doth sprung.
