Until then rest well, and dream of large women…

As for me I’ll be dreaming of vampires. The other day I got a bug up my… well you know, and thought that maybe I would like to read the Twilight book. The movie looked good to me, and I don’t watch movies and *not* read the books.

Nowadays most of my book purchases are knitting books. More specifically, books that help me design or dye. I used to read all of the time, but for some reason I got away from it.

Oh yeah, I remember why. It was because reading can easily consume my life force and nothing gets done and then your husband shows up at 6:45PM and you’re peeling spilled wax off the floor and have made nothing for dinner. (Yes, I kept reading while I was in the Chick Fil A drive thru. Shaddup!)

When I was younger, my mother used to take me to the library. Every two weeks. Finally, the glorious day came when I could get my own library card. And there were no limits. I could check out anything I wanted to from the library. Unfortunately I still had to stick to the two week schedule. I could theoretically ride my bike to the library. But there was no way I was gonna make it back up the 131 hill with library books in tow. Besides, my mom might notice all the books and realize I had been riding my bike all over town without her knowing it.

So I had my own card. And there was no limit. Well eventually my mom made the “you have to carry it yourself” limit. But I was 5’10” by the time I was 12, so that wasn’t such a big deal. I loved the library. I escaped there and it was wonderful. As a grownup it got even better. I moved to big cities that had library systems that just made even more available to me.

But then I had kids.

And herein lies the problem. I don’t read a book like a normal person. I don’t really believe in bookmarks. A bookmark indicates that you might put it down. That you would stop reading once you’ve started. And while I’ve read my share of really bad books, all the ones I’ve finished have been compelling enough for me to read them (for the most part) in one sitting. When the new Harry Potters came out, I just didn’t go to sleep ’til I was done.

But when I was single with the boys, I couldn’t stop the world for a day or two and not sleep and read. I had to feed them, and change their diapers. And even now with them threatening to tower over me, I still have to stop. I have to make dinner. I have to do school pickup. My preferred style of reading isn’t working for me. At all. So I read less.

But Twilight is good fun. And I read the first one today. And I’ve got it all planned out for tomorrow. Chamblin’s opens at 9am. So I can come home from school drop off, put dinner in the crockpot (see the genius there?), and read pretty much non-stop except for school pick-up. There’s only four books right? It’s only four days of my life. I just need two more crockpot meals for Thursday and Friday and I’m covered.

I read all four in less than a week… 😉 If you need to borrow – we now have all 4. Haley is going to see the midnight premier tomorrow (or today, as it is almost 2 a.m.)
