For a very long time I’ve wanted to do something with this stitch pattern. I’m not normally a reverse stockinette kind of girl, but something about the twisted stitches and the background fabric just called to me.

I had to modify the stitch pattern, because I didn’t like the fact that the twisted stitches didn’t originally flow from leaf to leaf. But I figured out how to do it and had this leafy shawl idea ready and waiting when this yarn arrived.

I’ve talked about it before of course, but this is TurtlePurl‘s Pillow Talk base in the “We Were Looking For Leafy” colorway. Which basically begged to be used with this leaf-based lace idea. I love a good semi-solid and the greens in this one work so very well with the twisted stitches.

This is the third of the Seven Sonnets, and it’s named for Walt Whitman. What with the leafy yarn and the leafy pattern I googled “green leaves poet” and immediately Whitman came up with his Leaves of  Grass poetry collection. Everything just kind of fit.
